From April 28th to September 9th 2007 Bradford Industrial Museum is hosting an exhibition by well-known photographer Tim Smith and oral historian Irna Qureshi which explores the longest, oldest and most famous highway in the Asian sub-continent.
As well as revealing the extraordinary history of this ancient trade and military route Tim and Irna sought out people with links to Britain - between Delhi and the Khyber Pass it travels through the homelands of over 90% of British Pakistanis and of the vast majority of British Sikhs and Hindus from the Indian Punjab. The result is a fascinating show personalised by memories, opinions and feelings of those in the photographs, explaining why this part of the “GT Road” was so crucial to the process of migration to Britain and showing how the close links between Britain and the places along it continue to this day. |
